Sister Annelle was born Sept. 15, 1919, in New Albany, the seventh of eight children of Gregory and Anna (Scharf) Libs. She entered the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand in 1936 and made her first profession of vows in 1938 and her final profession in 1941. She would have celebrated the 70th anniversary of her religious profession in October.
She is survived by nieces and nephews and members of her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Arthur; and her sisters, Clementine, Frances, and Sister Germaine Libs, OSB, Laurina Weber, Emma Strahl, and Alma Knable.
Sister Annelle taught for 57 years, beginning in 1940, at Washington, Columbus, St. Benedict and St. Joseph in Evansville, Haubstadt, Sacred Heart and St. Thomas in Vincennes, St. Joseph Hill in Clark County, Mariah Hill, Ireland, Huntingburg, Dubois and Precious Blood in Jasper. She taught religious education at St. Meinrad, St. Henry, and St. Ferdinand parishes. She also did supportive services at the monastery and served in the ministry of prayer for the last eight years.
Friends may call at Monastery Immaculate Conception on Monday from 2 to 7 p.m. EDT. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the monastery church. Viewing will continue on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at 5 p.m. Burial will follow immediately in the monastery cemetery.
