Duke of Auvergne and Angoulême. Born the only child of Charles IX and his mistress Marie Touchet. Although he supported Henri IV he also conspired against him and spent several months in prison. He inherited the duchy of Angouleme and the Hôtel in Paris from his aunt Diane de France in 1619. He lived through the reign of three french kings and saw the coronation of the fourth.
His gisant survived the destruction of the Couvent de Minimes and is today housed at the Hôtel d'Angoulême-Lamoignon. There is a cenotaph (maybe a cardiotaph?) for him at Saint Denis.
