Joan Jeanette Burger, 74, of Kunkletown, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, Nov. 6, at her son's residence in Andreas. Joan was the loving wife of Stanley "Mink" E. Burger, who preceded her in death on July 15, 2016.
She was born in Palmerton on May 28, 1943, daughter of the late Burdell and Hilda (Hawk) Kuehner.
Joan worked as a seamstress in various garment factories including Deevill Blouse in Kunkletown, Holiday Fashions in West Bowmans, Scotties Fashions in Little Gap, Isaac George Manufacturing and Natilee Fashion both in Palmerton and was a member of the I.L.G.W.U.
Joan loved life and being around people. She volunteered at Brookmont Health Care Center in the activities department. We will remember her as we think about the things she loved to do. Joan was a spiritual person and she would sit on her porch and read her bible daily and prayed for everyone. She loved working in her flower gardens, reading poems and history, challenging herself with word search books and puzzles and keeping a daily journal.
She loved attending her granddaughter Karissa's sporting events, especially her field hockey events.
May we always remember the joy, kindness and willingness to help that she so willingly shared with others.
She will be deeply missed by: her sons, Willis Hough and wife, Pam, of Lehighton and Kyle T. Hough and wife, Lucielle, of Andreas; brothers, Paul Kuehner and wife, Michelle, Robert Kuehner and wife, Lenna, Scott Kuehner, Allen Kuehner and wife, Lora, Burdell Kuehner Jr. and wife, Cindy, all of Kunkletown; sisters, Rita Swanger and husband, George, Helen Balliet and husband, Kenneth Sr., Shirley Drum and husband, Carey, Irene Zacharias and husband, Dean, all of Kunkletown, Jean Sporer and husband, Ronnie, of Honesdale, Kathryn Kurtz and husband, Michael, of Lehighton; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was the loving grandmother to her four grandchildren: Karissa Hough, Nicolas DeLaiglesia and wife, Kelly, Lara Swartley and husband, Mark, and Alex DeLaiglesia; four great grandchildren, Emily, Olivia, Nicolas and Holden and last, but not least, her furry kitty cats.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Gulla.
