Gladys Margery Bickel, daughter of Albert and Freda DeWilde,
was born December 8, 1918 in Des Moines, Iowa
and died May 12, 2023 at Greencroft, Goshen, IN. She was 104.
Gladys was preceded in death by her father and mother; sisters, Phyllis and Madge;
brother, Gordon; husband, Mars and son, Stanley.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Janel Thomas,
Paul and Angie Bickel, and daughters and son-in-law, Kathleen and G. Robert Borden
and Ruth Bickel; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild;
2 nieces and 2 nephews.
Gladys moved to California during World War II and worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" building the Lockheed P38 Lightning.
She returned to her family in Goshen, working at Penn Controls
and then Goshen Public Schools.
She loved Goshen High School sports, cribbage, bingo, travelling and RVing.
She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary
and First United Methodist Church, until limited by health.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on May 23rd at Chapel Hill,
10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, followed by a graveside service.
Donations may be made to the American Legion.
