SERVICES SET

Former local resident William J. Ahrendt, 83, of 3303 Pines Village, Valparaiso, died Thursday, August 14, 1986 at the Porter Memorial Hospital emergency room.
He was born April 21, 1903 in Baillytown, which is now part of Porter. He was the son of Fred and Anna (Johnson) Ahrendt.
In Chicago on July 13, 1934, he married the form Omi Bjelland, who preceded himn in death on Oct 15, 1979.
Surviviors include son Robert (wife Marianne) of Chesterton, daughter Barbara Amt (husband Gerhard) of Norwich, CT.; brother Louis (wife Carol) of Chesterton; and four grandsons.
He was also preceded in death by his parents. and two brothers.
He was a member and former board of administration member at Augsburg Lutheran Church here. He was active in Boy Scouts, serving as vice-chairman of the Pottowattomi Council. He was a member of the Duneland Historical Society.
He served as president ot the Baillytown Community Club, and was active in preserving the Burstrom Chapel here.
He was retired from the Liberty Loan Company, and from Household Finance, where he was a long officer.
He ran the Oak Hill Motel on U.S. 12 for 15 years beginning in 1949.
Services are set for 11 a.m. Aug 18, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 125 Lincoldn Ave. Chesterton. The rev Edward Young presiding. Remodeling is underway at Augsburg.
Burial will be in the cemetery at Burstrom Chapel. Memorial donation amy be made to the Augsburg church's Burstrom Chapel fund.
