She was born on Feb. 8. 1924, in Shattuc, a daughter of John H. and Mary Etta (nee Stone) Shepard. She married Herbert R. Paine on Aug. 24, 1940, in St. Louis, Mo., and he preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1992.
Lucille is survived by one son, Don Paine of Gulf Port, Miss.; two daughters, Judith Earl and husband Ed of West Chester, Ohio, Donna Harvey and husband Tom of Shelbyville, Ind.; a daughter-in-Law, Carol Paine of Urbana; two sisters, Pauline Law of Rockford, and Betty Haynes and husband Murl of Vandalia; three sisters-in-Law, Pauline Paine of Shattuc, Lora Torrence of Patoka and Lela Herrin of Centralia; four grandchildren, Ronnie Paine and wife Deana of Urbana, Richard Paine and wife Dena of Champaign, Chuck Worth of Indianapolis, Ind., and Brian Paine of Texas; nine great-grandchildren, Carly Paine, Kayce Paine, Kelly Paine, Carter Paine and Conner Paine, Chaz Worth, Stone Worth, Hunter Worth and Flynt Worth.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary; her husband, Herbert; a son, Ronnie Paine; and sisters Chloe Law, Vera Clevenz and Iva Bartlett.
Lucille grew up in rural Patoka, and moved to Champaign and then back to Patoka from 1976 until 1992. She then moved to Vandalia. She was a homemaker and a manager at Fannie Mae's Candy in Champaign for 17 years. She was a member of the Vandalia Disciples of Christ Church and also attended the First Christian Church. She was volunteer at Sweet Briar Care Facility in Vandalia for 10 years.
