He is the beloved husband to Claire Larner Garvey, devoted father of Kathleen (K.C.) Cowing and her husband Michael. Adored Papa of Michaela Cowing. Loving brother of William Garvey, MaryAnn Rogers of and the late Patricia Kelly RN of Quincy, John Garvey of Topsfield and Joanne Garvey RN of Milton. Brother-in-law of the late James P. Rogers. Steve is survived by many loving nieces and nephews and several dear sisters-in-law.
After moving to Savin Hill, Steve attended St. Margaret's Grammar School, Cathedral High School, and Boston College '59 where he earned a bachelor's degree in business. After graduation Steve worked for the federal government in Washington, D.C. & Boston until his retirement in June 1993. He was a member of several professional organizations including the AICPA and MA Chapter of National Association of Tax Professionals Inc.
Member of numerous civic and charitable organizations, Rockland Finance Committee , Rockland Zoning Board, Holiday Magic, Rockland Fraternal Order of Eagles, Past Grand Knight of Rockland K of C #165, Past Faithful Navigator of Cardinal Spellman General Assembly of Whitman. Faithful parishioner of Holy Family in Rockland and St. Theresa's Chapel in Humarock.
The family welcomes friends and relatives to celebrate Stephen's life on Thursday January 19, 2017 at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street Rockland, MA from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday January 20, 2017 at 9:00 AM at Holy Family Church. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
