She came to South Texas in 1909 in a covered wagon. She attended school in Louise. When D.M. Green opened the first telephone office, she was hired to manage it. Later she moved to Wallis to open the first telephone office there.
While still in her early 20's, she traveled to New Mexico to visit her uncle and his family where she lived and worked on their sheep and goat ranch, taking part in drives much the same way that cattle were driven to the rail heads for shipping.
She married Dock Brooks on September 14, 1933 and lived in Palacios until 1971 when they moved to El Campo.
