Lucille Lawrence passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on March 4, 2008.

She was born in Gaskin, Fla., in 1924 and spent most of her life there except for living in Pensacola, Fla., during the World War II years. She was a walking encyclopedia of Gaskin history and one of her biggest thrills was the annual Gaskin School reunion, of which she was president. Under her leadership it has been very successful and is much appreciated by all who attended the old Gaskin School.

Her greatest love in life was her four children and the time she spent with them, and they all felt the same about her. Her children's fondest memories are the times spent with her listening to stories about the "Good Old Days." She was dearly loved and will be dearly missed.

She enjoyed her days as a waitress at the old 331 Truck Stop and will be fondly remembered by the many friends she made there. She was a gracious and intelligent lady and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ella Sims; her father, Charlie Sims; her husband, George L. Lawrence; her brother, Charlie Sims II; her sisters, Jeanette Mack and Hazel Tarance; and her grandson, Christopher Lawrence.

She is survived by her four children, George "Butch" Lawrence and wife Marie of Gaskin, Fla., Bryan "Rusty" Lawrence and wife Mary Beth of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Delores Respress of Lake Wales, Fla., and Gayle Lawrence of Gaskin; and a special family friend, Lynne Bryson of Gaskin; five grandchildren, Deanna Higgins and husband Owen, Kevin Respress and wife Amy, Keith Lawrence, Emyle Lawrence and Jason Lawrence; one great-grandson, Seth Respress; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation services will be conducted from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 7, at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Park Ave., DeFuniak Springs.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Mashburn officiating. Burial will follow in Gaskin Cemetery.

Those serving as pallbearers are Kenneth Pridgen, Keith Lawrence, Gary Bowers, Travis Bowers, Delmer Adams and Kevin Respress.

Flowers are being accepted.

Clary-Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
