Bill was born on September 22, 1955, to Marguerite Ingraham Umstead and Claude Umstead. His first job was at Borden Milk Delivery where he delivered at Disney World. He was very handy around the house, and he loved to help people. He also used his handyman skills and mechanic knowledge to rebuild a 1974 Gran Torino. He was a loving husband of forty-eight years and was also survived by two daughters and a son, one grandson, a brother and a sister, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was a soccer referee for many years and was a past president of HGSOA. He loved camping and enjoyed his annual family trips to Daytona Beach.
