Obituary: Ruth Hamilton Smith

August 7, 1919 - October 29, 2001

LAYTON - Born to Thomas Mark and Annie Madsen Hamilton in Riverton, Utah. She had a happy childhood with wonderful parents and seven brothers and sisters. Married Don Carlos Smith, Jr. on Oct. 4, 1941. Marriage solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She lived most of her married life in Midvale, Utah, moving to Layton in 1983. An active member of the LDS Church, she loved the Church and loved the Lord. She gave many kind services to all throughout her life. Ruth graduated from Jordan High school and LDS Business College. She worked as a secretary for LDS welfare services and then for 35 years as executive secretary in the Salt Lake County library system. She had excellent typing skills and continued to type papers for her children and grandchildren until the time of her death.

She had two children, daughter, Sydney Smith Goff (Blaine), and a son, Brian Lee Smith (Paula), both of Kaysville; 12 grandchildren, Darin, Nathan, Rachel, Jared, Mary Ellen, and Lindsey Goff, LeeAnn, Elizabeth, Sandy, Mark, Emily and Katie Smith, and 20 great-grandchildren. She was a sweet, caring and supportive mother and grandmother. She loved flowers, and made her yard a showcase in the neighborhood. Preceded in death by her husband in 1974, she was anxious to see him again. Also preceded in death by all her brothers and sisters, and missed them dearly.

She was independent and active all of her life. She enjoyed her family, had lunch out daily, and participated in senior water aerobics. She told her family on her death bed that she had a wonderful life.

Be happy mother. We love you!
