Major League Baseball Player, Broadcaster. For nine seasons (1962 to 1970), he played at the outfielder and third base positions with the St. Louis Cardinals. Born Thomas Michael Shannon, he attended Christian Brothers College High School in Missouri, where he played football, basketball, and baseball at an all-state level. He briefly attended the University of Missouri before he was signed as an amateur free agent by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1958. He made his Major League debut on September 11, 1962, and played in 10 games that season. During the course of his career, he experienced three National League Pennants (1964, 1967, and 1968), which included two world championships (1964 and 1967). In 21 career World Series games, he compiled 19 hits which included three home runs. In 882 career regular-season games, he compiled 710 hits with a .255 lifetime batting average. After retiring as a player, Shannon began a lengthy career as a broadcaster beginning in 1972 and lasting until 2021. He was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2013 and the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame in 2014.
