OBITUARY FROM THE DAYTONITE, October 31, 1929
Mother of 3 Children Found Dying of Poison
Monday evening about 7:30 Gus Griffith, who lives several miles south of Dayton, found his wife on the porch of their home in a dying condition. A physician was called, but it was too late to save the woman's life. Justice of the Peace J. W. Baker was called to hold an inquest and rendered a verdict of death from poison self administered. Mr. Griffith could give no cause for his wife's rash act. Mrs. Griffith was well known in Dayton, having lived near here all her life. She was 38 years old and is survived by her husband, one married daughter and two young sons, her mother, Mrs. S. E. Frazier, several brothers and sisters and numerous other relatives. A large funeral procession of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends attended the funeral. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Kelly of Daisetta, assisted by Rev. C. E. McLeroy, pastor of the local Baptist Church, were held at the grave and the body was laid to rest in Linney Cemetery. The mound that marked the last resting place of this daughter, sister, and mother was heaped high with beautiful floral offerings.
