Lydia C Baity is the daughter of Pleasant Baity and Harriet Maynard (some say Steelman). She was born and reared in the Surry and Yadkin county area and is a sister to Enoch Alexander, Sarah C, Mary Jane, Martha A, Mariah D, Elizabeth Margaret and Rachel H Baity.

On 9 Nov 1865 Lydia married David Puryear Algood and they lived in the Liberty area of Yadkin county. They are the parents of Andrew Cowles, Emma, Sophia and John Wheeler Algood.

Lydia is first seen in the 1880 census of the NC Insane Asylum in Raleigh. She then apparently transferred to the Western State Hospital in Morganton when it opened in 1883. By then her husband had remarried, this time to Rosa Hill Baity with whom he had nine more children.
