SERVICES HELD TUESDAY FOR MRS. FOWLER
Services for Mrs. Rose Day Fowler, 87, were held Tuesday afternoon from the Catermole mortuary in Winlock. The Rev. Alexander Anderson of St. David's Episcopal Church, Portland, officiated. Vocal numbers were by Mrs. Esther Hammer of Vancouver, Wash. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery at Winlock. Mrs. Fowler passed away here Saturday.
She was a descendant of pioneer Oregon families. She was born Dec. 28, 1865 near Roseburg, Ore., the daughter of Nicholas Tarter Day, who came to Oregon in 1850. Her mother was Martha Ann Forrest, who came to Oregon in 1845. Her father and uncles had been prominent in Oregon in the pioneer period.
She attended Oregon State Teachers College at Monmouth and was a teacher for several years. She was married to John Francis Fowler Nov. 15, 1891. He had come to Napavine in 1887 and later was in business in Winlock. They moved to Morton in 1912 where he was in the mercantile business. He was instrumental in the organization of the first bank in Morton. Mr. Fowler passed away in 1916.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. "Gene" Bentzar of Los Angeles, Mrs. Isaac Crumb of Morton and Mrs. Robert Alton of Portland, two sisters, Mrs. Roy J. Whisler of Winlock and Mrs. Eva Abraham of Roseburg, Ore., five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She was a member of the Episcopal church.
