Born in Rutherford County, NC on April 18, 1936, he was the son of the late T.C. Norville and Robert Mae Laughter Norville.
Roby retired from Drexel Heritage after over 40 years of service as an engineer in quality control. He was a perfectionist and a self-taught automotive engineer. He enjoyed working on and driving nice cars. An intelligent and artistic man, Roby was also a master woodworker and made his and his daughter's homes special through his artistic eye. He enjoyed watching westerns and working outdoors.
Roby is survived by his special companion of 34 years, Clara Lovelace; daughter and Daddy's Girl, Angela "Angie" Norville (David Shook); grandson and Pop's Treasure (who grew up to be much like him), Spencer David Norville Guffey; former wife, Hazel C. Shell; sisters, Shirley Norville Freeman and JoAnne Norville Cook (Howard); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Roby was preceded in death by a number of brothers, sisters, nephews, and nieces.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. and Pastor Randy Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Nowlings Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
