Marion Elizabeth Derickson was born at Middle Branch, Nebr., on September 14, 1898, and had been a resident of this county [Holt County, Nebraska] all her life. On June 10, 1921, she was united in marriage to Oral Guy Pickering, the ceremony being performed at Dorsey. Two children were born of this union, Vera Arlyne and Olive Darlyne who, along with their father are left to mourn the passing of a kind and affectionate wife and mother. She also leaves her aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Derickson, two brothers, William and John Derickson, and four sisters, Sadie Derickson, Mrs. Georgia Butterfield, Olive Derickson and Juanette [actually, Jeanette] Derickson, all of this county.

Mrs. Pickering had a host of friends in the northeaster part of this county, where she was known and loved by all, and her passing will be sincerely mourned by not only her immediate relatives but by a legion of friends."

A year later, the following remembrance was printed in the Holt County (Nebraska) Independent:

In Remembrance of ---

Marion Derickson Pickering, who passed away one year ago today, Oct 31, 1939:

We pause from our many cares of the day,
In memory of you who were called away,
To a land that is fairer, yet we wished you to stay.
And although the years cannot erase
The memory of those cheery words, your smiling face,
We will keep striving, with you as our guide,
To make ourselves worthy of a place by your side.
