He entered the United States Marines Corps and was loyal in active service to this nation for 20 years. He served two tours in Okinawa, Japan, and one in Vietnam during the Vietnam war. He retired and was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps at the rank of gunnery sergeant on April 1, 1981.
He was a recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal and the Sea Service Ribbon.
