Corp. Reese Elmer Welch, a farmer from Honeybrook, Chester County Pa. enlisted at age 20 on Aug. 22, 1861, for 3 yrs.; in company A, 97th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was appointed 7th corporal upon his enlistment and promoted to 5th corp. on May 1, 1862; to 4th corp., on Jan, 9, 1863; and to 3d corp., on March 4, 1864. He mustered out at the expiration of his term on Aug. 25, 1864.
