He was born in Sumter County, South Carolina. He moved to Vernon Parish through Georgia and Mississippi arriving in Concordia Parish in 1840. In 1860 he lived in Winn Parish. In the Civil War he joined the 56th Partisan Rangers in 1863. In 1870 he lived in Ward Eight, Sabine Parish which became Ward Two, Vernon Parish in 1871. In all enumerations William was a farmer. William did not claim any land. William died in Vernon Parish in 1886 and is buried in Good Hope Cemetery in Anacoco with wife Jane and sons James and Thomas.
