He was living in Gatesville, Coryell Co., TX in 1900. John and Mollie had 10 children 9 of whom were still living in 1900.

"In 1921 John and Molly Byrom finally made a trip back to Shelbyville, Tennessee, and John met with descendants of his family he had left behind in 1874 when he came to Texas. He saw the places where he stood guard at the bridge over Duck River, at the Skull Camp Bridge, at the Stones River Battleground. He was Sgt. John Byrom then when that bitter assualt had taken place at 'Hell's Half Acre.' He and four of his five brothers had been 'Rebs' in that terrible war. One brother lost an arm, another was severely wounded. Their father, who was a chaplain, lost his life when he contracted pnuemonia while ministering day and night to the sick and wounded in terrible weather.

John (b. 1842) came to Williamson County from Tallahoma, Tennessee. He married Molly Yows (b. 1853 in Texas) in 1876. Her parents had come from Arkansas. In 1883 John and Molly moved to Coryell County and settled in Hay Valley. They had three children when they moved: George William "Billy" (born 1877, M. Virgie Bellamy 1896); Jim Jake (b. 1880, m. Minnie Meharg 1911); and Hattie (b. 1882, m. Lewis Meharg 1905).

Six more children were born in Coryell County: Joseph roy (b. 1884, never married); Claude R. (b. 1886, m. Lucy Snyder 1915); John Calvin (b. 1888, m. Freda McClinton 1909); Eddie Guy (b. 1890; m. Era Quicksall 1917); Eva Elizabeth (b. 1893, m. Will Davis 1912); and Mary Ella (b. 1895, m. Lawrence Coward 1914).

While John's family had remained in Tennessee, Molly's had all moved to Coryell County. Thus, there are many Yows descendants here still, cousins to the Byroms. John Milton died in 1924 and Molly in 1927. (Masonic Cemetery - Gatesville). All of their children are deceased also, but of these nine children, only one left Coryell County. Joh Calvin went to McLennan County.

The rest raised their families here. There are four generations, too many descendants to count, even though the younger generations have scattered.

Molly and John were charter members of the Hay Valley Baptist Church, where there are at least two dozen direct descendants still very active members."
