Thella Meredith Begner, 89, of Princeville, passed away at Monday, April 3, 2023, at Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Toulon, Illinois. Born on February 23, 1934, in Granite City, Illinois to Luther (Gladys) Ray and Josie (George) Free. She married Louis C. "Fuzz" Begner on December 16, 1961. She was undoubtedly welcomed home by his loving embrace.
Thella, Beanie to some, spent many years as housewife and mother; when her years at home ended, she worked for Ducky Ault at AK Oil as Bookkeeper and cashier as needed for many years.
After leaving the workforce, she spent time giving free perms and haircuts out of her kitchen and spending most of her "retirement" helping her children by running her grandchildren around to appointments and activities; as well as babysitting her great grandchildren while her grandkids finished college and/or worked.
Music was in her bones whether she was belting out Loretta Lynn or nursery rhymes; or found singing karaoke at local establishments, entertaining the crowd with her beautiful voice. She didn't just sing; she also played the piano and the guitar.
Thella is survived by her children, Gale Linder of Princeville, IL, Mack (Clara) Conway of Wyoming, IL, Dianna Presseller of Chillicothe, IL, Ben Conway of Gainesville, FL., Terry (Matt) Bohm of Chillicothe, IL, Kevin Conway of Princeville, IL., Bonnie (Todd) Christner of Crothersville, IN, Reba (Rick) Wathern of East Peoria, IL, Vaughn "Butch" Begner of Princeville, IL, Alesia (Dennis) Bohannan of Princeville, IL, and Thomas Begner of Columbus, IN.
Thella was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Gerald "Pete" Begner; granddaughters, Michelle Dickerson-Connolly, and Samantha Begner; her parents; 2 sisters, Caroline, and Almetta; 5 brothers, Luther Jr., Adrian, Joe, Frankie, and Danny; her son-in-law, Tom Presseller;, and daughter-in-law, Jeanne Conway.
Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery.
