SMOTHERED TO DEATH IN MUD
Grace Ella Haumont, the three year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul H. Haumont, living nine miles east of the city, was smothered to death early Monday evening when she fell face downward in a bed of mud. The little girl was playing in the yard with some sweet pea seed which she held in her hand and some of the seed dropped into a mud hole nearby. In trying to recover the seed she lost her balance and fell into the mud on her face. Two other sisters who were also playing in the yard made an unsuccessful attempt to pull her out by the feet and then called their father, who was working a short distance away. Mr. Haumont hurried to the scene, but when he lifted the little girl out he found that life was extinct. The strange part of the sad affair is that the child was not in the mud over five minutes. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. Mr. Bellis, of Berwyn. Interment was made in the Westerville cemetery
