The Eldon Advertiser, April 18, 1940

Elisha Vaughn Stark was born February 27, 1862, near Eldon, Mo., the son of Charles and Elizabeth Mania Stark. His entire life was spent in Miller County. He departed this life on April 14, 1940, at his home near Etterville, Mo., being at the time of his death, 78 years, 1 month, 19 days.

At the age of 14 years, Mr. Stark united with Blue Springs Baptist church. When the Mount Carmel Baptist Church was organized, he transferred his membership, and later he placed his membership with the Central Baptist Church of which he was a member at the time of his death. He was ordained a Deacon in the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in 1905 and continued an active and devoted member of his church. His entire life was spent in his church work and never was there a time he was too sick or too busy or the weather conditions too bad for him to serve his Master.

On October 26, 1884, he was united in marriage to Martha A Snider. To this union 11 children were born. He leaves his devoted wife and 7 children to mourn his death. John Stark, Etterville, Mo.; Sadie Kelsay, Yampa, Colo.; Mary Craig, Eldon, Mo.; Rose Harris, Merriam, Kans.; Clara Farris, Kansas City, Kans.; Grace Cochran, Gary, Ind.; and Margie Cox, Los Angeles, Calif. He also leaves 24 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Three infant sons and one infant daughter preceded him in death. Also a wife and daughter of a former marriage, preceded him in death, the daughter, Elizabeth McCasland passing away 9 years ago.

The funeral was held at the First Baptist Church in Eldon, Mo., and was conducted by his pastor, Rev. Allee, of Olean, Mo. All of his children and most of his grandchildren were present at his funeral; his grandsons being pallbearers. Interment was at Dooley Cemetery. Phillips Funeral Home was in charge.
