"George W. Fling, a life-long resident of the town of Middlefield, died Saturday morning at 4 o'clock at the Barnum homestead at Middlefield Center, after a long period of declining health. Mr. Fling was the last of the ten children of Abram and Nancy Bradt Fling of Lentsville, where he was born April 9, 1849. His wife, the former Jane Hannah, died about 18 years ago. Nearest survivors are nieces and nephews , among whom are Mrs. William Hall of Oneonta, Abram Fling of Schenevus, Mrs. James VanDeusen of Cobleskill, Mrs. George VanDeusen and Mrs. Clyde Ottoway of Middlefield Center, Levi Wood of Cooperstown, Miss A. Louise Fling of Brooklyn, Fred Fling of West Edmeston, Mrs. Lina Flansburg of Springfield, and Howard Willey of Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Two sons, Jess and Fred Fling, preceded their father in death. Interment was made in the family plot in the Middlefield Center cemetery." (July 28, 1937, The Freeman's Journal of Cooperstown, NY)
