BLACKWELL - William "Bill" L. Johnson, 79, of Braman passed away in his home Nov. 23, 2007. Bill was born March 1, 1928 in Enid to Louis T. and Esther Eyestone Johnson.

A wake will be Monday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Blackwell Funeral Home with Bart Brashears, deacon, officiating. The funeral will be Tuesday, Nov., 27, at 10 a.m. in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Blackwell with the Revs. Larok Obwana Martin and Joseph Vas officiating. Interment will follow in the Braman Cemetery in Braman. Arrangements are under the direction of Blackwell Funeral Home.

Bill grew up on the farm in Kremlin and graduated from Kremlin High in 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War.

He moved to Blackwell in 1952 and worked at the Hazel Atlus Glass plant. Bill worked in the oil fields for many years while also farming.

Bill married Mary Louise Parsons Feb. 14, 1955, in Winfield, Kan., and to this union was born two son and three daughters. They resided in Blackwell until 1969 when they then moved to rural Braman. Mary preceded him in death Dec. 3, 2003, at the age of 73.

He continued to farm for many years even after he retired. He was still active in the farming operation giving Lennie and Gary his much needed advice.

Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman spending many a day with friends doing what he loved to do. Bill was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, The Knight of Columbus, American Legion-Russell Litchfield Post 7 and the VFW Post.

Bill is survived by his son, Michael Johnson and wife Robin of Braman; his daughters, Teresa Beard and husband Danny of Newkirk, Linda McConnell and husband Ron of Braman and Phyllis Johnson of the home in Braman; eleven grandchildren, Mindi Looper and husband, Kendall, Kayla, Trevor, Walker, Jennifer and husband, Darin, Justin, Amber, Drew, Matt McConnell and wife Katie, Kay and Erin; seven great-grandchildren, Hannah, Cooper, Blake, Jayden, Colby, Lane, Matison; two step-great grandchildren, Cody, and Jacob; his sisters, Joyce Moore of Blackwell, Mary Litschke of Enid, Dorothy Walta of Caldwell, Kan., and Janice Ropp of Blackwell; his brothers, Ted Johnson of Blackwell and Floren Johnson of Kremlin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his son, Billy Johnson; brothers, Bob, Joe and David Johnson.

Casket bearers will be Matt McConnell, Kay McConnell, Erin McConnell, Mindi Looper, Kayla Johnson, Trevor Johnson, Walker Johnson, Jennifer Plush, Amber Butler, Justin Beard and Drew Beard.

Honorary bearers will be Darrell Cummings, J.P. Reed, Lennie DeBoard, Gary Fultz, Dave Parsons, Jim Brown, Kenneth Hodges, Ted Johnson and Monte Moore.
