Janice Ropp went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, April 26, 2014, after a courageous fight with her illness. She was 67.
Janice Louise Johnson Ropp, known by many as Janie, was born in Enid, on June 1, 1946, the daughter of L.T. and Esther Eyestone Johnson. Janice was the eighth child out of 10 children. She was the baby girl of six boys and four girls. She grew up and attended school primarily in Blackwell where she attended Catholic School before graduating from Blackwell High School in 1964.
Following graduation she met and later married Buford Ropp on Dec. 3, 1966, in Pawhuska. They then moved to California, where Buford learned the skills to be a machinist.
In 1971, they returned to Blackwell and then shortly moved to Belle Plaine, Kan., where her husband was employed by Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan.
By 1976 they had three girls and one boy and had moved back to settle in Blackwell, to be closer to family and to help take care of her parents. While still working for Boeing, Buford and Janice opened their own machine shop, B&J Machine Shop. There she learned to become a machinist and for several years she worked in Oklahoma and Kansas after their own machine shop had closed. Later in life, she worked as a personal caregiver and loved helping others. She had a very big heart and was full of kindness and compassion even after her own children were grown Janice and Buford became foster parents during the early 1990s, fostering seven young children.
Janice and her family belong to First Baptist Church in Blackwell. Some of the best times they had together were camping at Kaw Lake. After her husband retired from Boeing in 2000, they bought a fifth wheel trailer and spent weeks at a time at the lake camping and fishing every spring and fall with her immediate extended family. She loved spending as much time as she could outdoors. She really loved to have fun and to be with family and friends. Everybody was family to Janice. She would put her life on hold to help others. One of her greatest pleasures in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her actions spoke so much more than words. She had a lot of spunk. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include daughters, Kim Ropp, of Stillwater, Terri Ropp, of Blackwell and Kristie Ropp, of Blackwell; son, Adam Ropp, of Duncan; stepsons, Fred Skrdla, of Ponca City and Greg Skrdla, of Kaw city; brothers, Floren Johnson, of Okmulgee, Ted Johnson, of Blackwell; sisters, Joyce Moore, of Blackwell, Mary Litschke, of Enid and Dorothy Walta, of Caldwell, Kan.; She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford; her parents and four brothers, William Johnson, Joe Johnson, Bobby Johnson and David Johnson.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 30 at First Baptist Church, Blackwell under the direction of Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service and Cremation Directors, Enid.
