A resident of Camden Maine since 1971, Brandes was a volunteer for the elderly and was active in St. Thomas Episcopal Church. At the time of her death , she served on the board of the Coast Workshop in Camden. Brandes was a passenger aboard Downeast Airlines Flight 46 that crashed at Owls Head, ME. She was survived by her five children.
