Ex-airforce pilot and adventurer, who crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 1928 for the first time from Europe to America.After Charles Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic from West to East in 1927, the idea of flying in the opposite direction which is more difficult, became more popular. Baron Günther von Hünefeld financed and engineered the flight from Europe to America in 1928 accompanied by Hugo Junkers and Hermann Köhl. By a special act of the Congress of the United States, Hünefeld and his two companions were awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross 2 May 1928. The flight by the three, referred to as the three musketeers, The Three Musketeers of The Air, is told by Fitzmaurice,vanHuenefeld Koehl (Author), published by G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1928.
