JOHN RAY CASH
YOUTH IS DROWNED NEAR HERE SUNDAY

John Ray Cash, 13 Meets Death In Saline River Sunday morning.
John Ray Cash, 13 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Cash and nephew of former Sheriff Dave Cash, of the Draughon community was drowned in Saline River about a mile above Pool Sunday morning at 10 o'clock. The body was not recovered until nearly three hours later at which time efforts to revive the lad were in vain.
With two other small boys, the boy was swimming and while supposedly drifting with the current of the stream, was drawn into a whirlpool or suckhole from which he was unable to swim. Before the body could be recovered it was necessary for the
other two boys to run more than a mile to report the tragedy.
A crowd gathered at the scene of the drowning as soon as possible and the body was quickly located.
John Ray lived near Rison with his parents until about a year ago when they moved to Draughon. He attended the local public school and was a favorite among his young classmates.
He is survived by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
He was a member of the Rison Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist church here Monday morning at 9:30 by the Rev. H.W. Jean, pastor. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery. Funeral arrangements were in charge
of Moore's undertaking department.
