Burkett's COMMENTARIES ON THE NEW TESTAMENT ---containing a hand-written "Smithson Family Record" William Bartley Smithson (b. Jan. 14, 1824 - d. June 19, 1865). William B. Smithson married Jane Campbell on August 13, 1845 and was the father of nine (of eleven) children. He enlisted at Chaffin's Bluff in Feb. 1862, in Lunenburg Artillery (Co. F, 22nd VA Infantry and later 13th Battalion, VA Infantry). He was held a prisoner for approximately three months at Camp Hilltop, Point Lookout, Maryland. He was paroled after Lee's surrender but was taken ill on the way home. He died in a hospital in Petersburg, Virginia and buried in Blandford Cemetery.
