She was the daughter of the late George N. Dorland and Georgia (Delbridge) Dorland Hills; the sister to Russell (Anne); sister-in-law to Roberta "Bert" (James) Workman, the late Bette (late Ted) Keller and the late Mary (late Harvey) Everhart. She was aunt to Mark (Beverly) and Michelle (Randy) Butler, Teresa France, Janine (Steve) Danner and Joe (Tanna) France; and great-aunt and favored pen pal to Justin, Julie, Sarah, Amanda, Joshua and Libby.
She was the friend to countless people, especially Caryl (late Adolph "Red") Tietz and the "Six-Em," who are six lifelong girlfriends since kindergarten from Havana, Ill. The Six-Em are Sonia (late Richard) Smith, Janice (Norman) Wingler, Diane (Donald) Mattison, Marilyn (Evans) Brittin and Beverly (Paul) Fricke.
Patricia's vocation was as a legal secretary and court reporter, but her true calling was as a tireless hospital volunteer. Her life took on a formidable passion when in 1952 she first volunteered at Havana's Mason District Hospital and went there each day after work.
In 1961, she and her husband moved from downstate to Blue Island, and she continued her work until her death on behalf of St. Francis Hospital. She performed thousands of hours of service and proudly served as president of St. Francis' Women's Auxiliary. Through this affiliation, she became involved with the Illinois Hospital Association and served, with distinction, as chairman of the State of Illinois Hospital Association Council on Volunteers. She was currently serving on the IHA Advisory Board.
