W.B. Mauldin, 97, brother of G.H. Mauldin of Comanche died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Luke Reeves at Blanket, Tuesday, October 6, the end coming peacefully due to senility. Internment was made Wednesday at the Rock Church Cemetery between Blanket and Comanche, the services being conducted by the Rev. Wood and Rev. Henderson of Blanket.
Mr. Mauldin was born June 13 1830 in Tennessee, being the son of Dr. and Mrs. E.C. Mauldin. He removed with his parents to Texas in 1840, settling first in Shelby County and afterwords living in Caldwell, Burleson, Williamson, and Lavaca counties before removing to Comanche County and settling 3 miles South West of Sidney in 1881, where he lived for 24 years. He was married twice, the first time to Miss Saphronia Harris in Shelby County in 1849, who died in Burleson County in 1857. The following year he was married to Miss Elizabeth Stapp in Williamson County, who died near Sidney in 1900 and was buried in the Rock Church Cemetery.
He was a Confederate soldier enlisting from Williamson County in 1861 in the 17th Texas Infantry and served throughout the war. He was the father of 18 children, 5 by his first wife, and 13 by his second wife.
For 70 years he was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and always took an active interest in the affairs of the organization.
Among the children who attended the funeral services were William H. Mauldin, 72, of New Mexico, said by Rev. Williamson to be the oldest son to ever attend the funeral of a father at the many services he had held during his long service as a minister. Other children to attend were: Mesdames Whitt and Luke Reeves of Blanket, Joseph and Walter Mauldin of Callahan County; and Mrs. Arch Boyd of West Texas.
