Richard was a native of Louisiana and had been a long time resident of the Pea Ridge Community in Scott County before moving to Leake County. Richard worked as a River Boat Captain for over 50 years before retirement. One of his favorite pastimes was his horses. Richard was a very loving husband, father and great provider for his family.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita May of Carthage; son, Tim May of Carthage; grandchildren; Kristen Perry (Justin) and Andrew May (Hannah); great-grandchildren, Jonathan Perry, Jacob Perry and Peyton May; sisters, Sue Bonner (Larry) of Bastrop, LA and Melba Brown of Iowa; brother, Rickey Petty of Oregon.
Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Genell May; daughter, Shondra May; parents, James Auston and Alma Gertrude May; sister, Peggy May and brother, Donald May.
