Violetta was the eldest daughter of Albert M. Yeaw (1847-1902) and Johanna (née Ormond, also spelled as Ormand/Orman/Oram). Her mother was an Irish immigrant, and her father was from Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Her parents married in Des Moines, Iowa on February 28, 1870, and after Violetta they had three more daughters--Mabel, Josephine, and Pearl. The family lived in Salt Lake City during the 1870s but Albert was out of the picture by 1880 and living back east again (where he was from). Albert remarried twice more. Johanna remarried to Edward McLeod in Salt Lake City in 1886. With her second husband, Johanna had one son: John Edward McLeod (1888-1960).
