SARAH ANN (MYERS) WILLITS 1822 - 1847

Sarah was the daughter of Col. Andrew & Mary (Lloyd) Myers. She and her twin sister Mary Ann were born 9/13/1822 in Pickaway County, Ohio. She died 9/23/1847 at the age of 25 yrs 10 days, in Mercer County, Illinois. Sarah is buried in New Boston Cemetery and her tombstone records that she was the wife of James Monroe Willits.

Sarah married James Monroe Willits, son of Levi and Rachel (Field) Willits, on 9/29/1840 in Mercer County. James also had a twin sister, Melissa. But sadly she had passed away when they were very young children.

The children of Sarah & James Willits were:
Levi Perry, b. Nov 21, 1841 in Indiana
William Henry, b. Aug 15, 1843 in IN
Viola Jane, b. Nov 17, 1844 in IL
James Lloyd, b. 29, 1847 in IL
Orpha Miranda, b. Sept 10, 1849 in IL.
NOTE: Family Records state that Sarah (Myers) Willits died just 13 days after the birth of her daughter Orpha Miranda, who was born in 1849 BUT Sarah's tombstone clearly says she died in 1847? So one of these is a misprint?

Sarah's widower, James Monroe Willits married Sarah Augusta Prouty, daughter of William and Lydia (Hall) Prouty, on 6/17/1850 in Mercer County. Sarah Prouty was born 4/30/1832 in Massachusetts, and died 12/5/1895 in Mercer County, Illinois. She is also buried in the New Boston Cemetery in the Prouty & Willits family plot as is James and Sarah A. (Myers) Willits. Sarah A. (Prouty) Willits is often mistaken for the first Mrs. Sarah A. Willits.
