The son of George R. & Mary A. (Brown) Clouser, in 1860 he was a farmer living with his parents in Centre Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 4" tall and had black hair and black eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he first enlisted and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg April 20, 1861, as a private with Co. D, 2nd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 24, 1861. He also enlisted in Harrisburg August 31, 1864, mustered into federal service there September 9 as a corporal with Co. G, 208th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 1, 1865.
He married Christiana Rose ca. 1867 and fathered Harry Aloys (b. 06/01/68), Mary A. (b. 06/15/70, d. 08/17/70), George Alvin (b. 06/14/71), Emory Ira (b. 10/12/73), and William Rose (b. 12/07/76).
