MSgt. John William Cannon, 64, of Peniel died Sunday, November 21, 1999 at Putnam Community Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born in Peniel and was a lifelong resident. He was retired from the U.S. Army Reserve/Florida National Guard after 33 years of service where he served in the 82nd Airborne, 20th Special Forces Group as Master Sergeant. He was retired from Georgia-Pacific Corp. in Palatka where he had worked for forty years in Tissue Converting. He was a member of Peniel Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, James "Claude" Cannon; one daughter, Linda Worgum; and one brother, J. C. Cannon.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Gertiephine Cannon of Peniel; his mother, Ruby Cannon of Palatka; five daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Cardinal Collins of Keystone Heights, Shelly Johnson of Dallas, Texas, Lisa Marie and Larry Williams of Satsuma, Kimbi and David Smith of Florahome, and J'on Cannon of Palatka; one son and fiancee, Charles E. Vaught Jr. and Rose Smith of Palatka; two sisters, and brother-in-law, Wyonah and Lt. Col. Jim Sikes of Grandin, and Claudine Priester of San Mateo; twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at graveside, 10 a.m. Friday, November 26, 1999, at Peniel Cemetery with full military honors given by the U.S. Army Reserve/Florida National Guard.
