Mrs ANNA BAKER . At the age of 80 years, Mrs Anna Baker, widow of the late Archdeacon Baker, passed away at her residence 182, Main Street, on Wednesday, July 11/ The late Mrs Baker was born in 1848 at Nufold, England, being the daughter of Mr G. Baker. In 1876 she married the Rev William George George Baker, who was engaged in missionary work in the Madras Presidency of India under the Church Missionary Society. Mr Baker was however, forced to give up work in India in 1881, owing to ill health and he and his wife then resided in England for two years. In 1883 Mr and Mrs Baker came out to New Zealand to the Diocese of Nelson. Mr Baker held several positions including those of secretary to the British and Foreign Bible Society and Vicar of Wakefield, Richmond and Brightwater. It was at the period also that he became Archdeacon of Waimea. He retired in 1915 and he and his wife then lived at the Lower Hutt. In 1920 he died and was buried at the Taita churchyard. The same year Mrs Baker to Palmerston North. She was of a bright and cheerful disposition and proved a true friend to many.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters. The Rev Harold Baker is vicar of St Thomas's, North Sydney. Mr William Baker is in the Eastern Extension Cable Company and the third son is Bishop of Bendigo, Australia. The Misses Alice and Grace Baker have lived with their mother in Palmerston North
