SUFFOLK - Former Boy Scout executive Bill D. Dillard, 86, died peacefully at home Feb. 26, 2008. He was born in Anniston, Ala., but grew up in Suffolk. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and served until honorably discharged in 1945. Bill Dillard married Betty Brooks in 1945. They were devoted to one another until her death in 1981. He was predeceased by four siblings and his wife. Bill Dillard is survived by his sons, B. Daniel Dillard of Bethlehem, Pa., David E. Dillard of Suffolk; daughters-in-law, Malia Dillard and Deborah Dillard; nine grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; and a sister, Lillie Mae Knox. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Sentara Hospice, 154 Burnetts Way, Suite 102, Suffolk, VA 23434.
