Kenneth Maynard Smith Born Nov. 24, 1929 in Austin, MN. His family migrated to the Tacoma area when he was 6. Grew up in Pierce County where he worked on a farm, delivered a rural paper route and became a proficient shoe shiner. At the old age of 16, he joined the Air Force in which he spent the next 25 years retiring in 1972. He had 5 children while in the service, Steven (Gabrielle), Janis (Steve), Stuart (Cheryl), Darrel and Guy. After retiring he met and married Patricia who had 2 daughters, Kathleen and Shannon who he embraced as his own. Together Ken and Pat spent the next few years raising the three boys still at home. After the last one left the nest Ken and Pat took to the road. They went to Europe, Australia and all around the states, and taking several cruises. They always had a bag packed. All Pat had to say is "let's go" and Ken had his keys in his hand asking "where to" on the way to the car. He loved to bowl, play cards and the sound of slot machines was music to his ears. He was always ready with a helping hand. He had a quick wit and a ready smile. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 35 years, children, step-daughters, numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, LaVilla (Victor) and Gladys (Keith). He was pre-deceased by a younger sister, Darlene (Jim). You are not forgotten loved one nor will you ever be as long as life and memory last we will remember thee. Graveside service will be held Friday, Feb 29, 2008 at 1pm at the New Tacoma Cemetery.
