Nell Stevens Bell, age 92, of Asheville died on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Nell was born on November 5, 1930, in Buncombe County to the late Richard Charles Stevens and Fannie Sue Roberts Stevens. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Frank C., Robert, Henry, Merritt, George and Tom; and sisters, Virginia, Alice, Wylma, Sue, Ella Mae, and Rosalie.
Nell grew up in Buncombe County. After graduating from West Buncombe High School, she received a business certificate from Blanton's College in Asheville and worked for several years as an office manager for a local gas company. However, deciding she wanted to travel, she applied to an airline training program, and worked as a stewardess before switching to work in ticket offices and organizing tours. She was employed by Northwest, TWA, and Alitalia Airlines, where she rose to be a ticket office manager and was able to travel internationally. She later worked variously as a teacher, real estate agent, hotel clerk, portrait studio assistant, and in sales.
Surviving are her children, Marcum Parker Bell and Samuel Frank Bell; brother, Joe Stevens; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Leicester Episcopal Church Yard at 2:30 PM on Saturday, February 11, 2023 with Rev. Ricky Wolfe officiating.
