Morgan Melton

Morgan Melton was born in Union Parish, Louisiana on March 30, 1875 to Perry and Eliza Kinard Melton. Later as young men, Morgan and his brother, Clay Melton, came to Texas and settled in northwest Palo Pinto County. In the summer of 1907, Morgan and Clay scouted Texas and what was Oklahoma Indian Territory at that time, looking for land to establish a homestead. What appealed to them was the flat land area they found in Fisher County where both men purchased land west of Roby. In the fall of 1907, Morgan, Clay, and Clay's young family moved to Fisher County in covered wagons. One famous family story about the trip was the three gruesome day struggle they faced to cross a muddy Albany grade. Morgan remained a confirmed bachelor and dry-land farmer. He spent the remainder of his life on his land near his brother and family until his death on April 9, 1936.
