Gail was born on June 9, 1936, in Portland, Indiana, the son of Floyd and Catherine (Rockwell) Brinkerhoff. He graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Chemistry. Gail served in the U.S. Army and worked as an Industrial Hygienist for the Department of the Navy and was a cattle farmer in Virginia. He was also a farmer in Greene Township, Jay County. Gail was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed watching and playing baseball.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2023 from 12-2 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland with a memorial service to follow. Burial will be at Salamonia Cemetery in Salamonia, Indiana.
