Died, Thursday morning, Dec. 30 at 11 o'clock at the family residence, 527 North Sixth street, Simon Hammerslough, aged 70 years, 2 months and 15 days. Mr. Hammerslough was a resident of this city for twenty-five years. He was born in Bremen, Germany, and came to Illinois thirty-one years ago. For many years he was employed as salesman at S. Rosenwald clothing house on the west side of the square. He retired from business about ten years ago. At one time he was in the internal revenue office in this city. The deceased was secretary of Capital lodge, No. 38, A.O.U.W. of this city, for twenty years. He was also a member of Emes lodge No. 67, I.O.B.B.
He is survived by his widow, two sons, E. H. Hammerslough of Chicago and Joseph Hammerslough of this city, and two daughters, Mrs. M. Lillenstein, Petersburg, and Miss Bertha Hammerslough of this city.
The funeral will be held this afternoon at the Jewish synagogue on North Fifth street. The interment will be in Oak Ridge cemetery. IL State Journal, Springfield, IL 12-31-1897
