Annie Ruth was a graduate of Erwin High School, where she met and later married her high school sweetheart. She was a loving woman with a sense of humor, she loved to talk, eat and go, especially on her motorcycle. Annie Ruth was a faithful member of Erwin Church of God, and in recent years, supported her son-in-law at Benson Church of God.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 17, at 2 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home by Rev. Allen Gupton. Burial will follow in Erwin Memorial Park.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Billy Matthews, her son, Sherwood Allen Matthews and wife Kay, her daughter, Sherry M. Gupton and husband Allen all of Erwin, four grandchildren, Bridget Pollard and husband Keith, Casey Townsend and husband Brandon, Matthew Gupton and wife Sun, and April Gupton, her great granddaughter, Tiffany Gupton.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home.
