Leo G. "Red" McManus

Leo "Red" McManus was born July 19th, 1924 to Leo and Irene McManus in Emery, SD. He graduated from high school at Alexandria, SD in 1942. He entered the U.S. Army and served with the 9th Airborne Troop Carrier Command during WWII in the European Theatre.

Red married Dorothy Link on June 6th, 1946 in Huron, SD. The couple resided in Sioux Falls most of their married life. Red worked for Modern Press and Zip Feed Mills retiring from Zip in 1986. He was active as a hospital volunteer for the VA, was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Moose Lodge. Red was also a former 4th degree Knight of Columbus. He was an avid outdoorsman, particularly fond of waterfowl hunting and fishing. He enjoyed cooking and wine making.

Red is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Lee of Sioux Falls; and daughters, Colleen Kessler and Jill McManus-Netwal of Kansas City, MO, and Shawn Mulloy of Portland, OR. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Maurine and Erin McManus, Cassie and Matthew Mulloy of Sioux Falls, Michael and Robert Kessler and Catherine Netwal of Kansas City. Also three brothers, Jerome of Seattle, WA, Eugene of Watertown, SD, and Michael of Minneapolis, MN; three sisters, Annette Elefson of Seattle, WA, Eleanor Butler of Jerico Springs, MO, and Joan Marquardt of Florence, SD; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Bridget Ann McManus and a brother, Derald.
