Mr. Charles A. Mattingly, age 62, of Louisville, KY, returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 18, 2022. He was born in Louisville on July 12, 1960. Mr. Mattingly worked at Lorillard Tobacco Company until his retirement in 1983 due to a devastating motorcycle accident. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Rosa & Smith Carrier; step-grandmother, Dorothy McCoy; stepbrother, Terry McCoy. Charlie was an avid Nascar fan, consistently keeping up with all the drivers. He loved watching the Cleveland Browns and participating in RC Racing. Charlie favorite hobby was restoring his 1970 Mustang Fastback, Stella. He loved playing with his dogs and spending time with his family. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 29 years, Gail Mattingly; daughters, Shona Bolden (Jay), Cissina Tanner (Billy); grandchildren, Cody, Kylar, Leighton, Ashlyn, Hendrix, Lillian, A.J.; mother, Jean McCoy; father; Sam McCoy; brother, Joe Mattingly; sisters, Teresa Gronda (Paul), Susan Peters; stepsiblings, Dennis, Peggy, Jerry, David, Mike; his beloved coon hounds, Hana and Red; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 12 noon in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with entombment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday, December 26, 2022 from 1-8 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the Kosair Children's Hospital PICU Unit.
