"Ina Corine Wachtel, 102, Savannah, Missouri, died Tuesday, February 15, 2000, at a Savannah, Missouri health care center.

Miss Wachtel was born October 21, 1897, five miles north of Savannah in rural Andrew County. She and her family moved to Savannah in 1904, where she entered the third grade in the Savannah public schools. She graduated in 1915 from Savannah High School and then attended the former Platte Commercial College, St Joseph. She was secretary for the former Buchanan County Fire and Lightning Insurance Company for 18 months.

In 1918, Miss Wachtel became the head of the commercial department at Missouri Wesleyan College in Cameron, Missouri, where she remained until her graduation in May of 1922 from the School of Expression. She returned to Savannah High School as head of the commercial department in the fall of 1922, where she remained until May of 1926.

She graduated from the Northwest Missouri State Teachers College, Maryville, in 1927 with a bachelor of science degree in education. She later received her master's degree in business education in 1933 from the University of Missouri, Columbia. In September 1927, she began teaching in the commercial department of Lafayette High School in St Joseph, where she taught school for the next 40 years, until her retirement in May of 1968. In 1912, she joined the First Christian Church in Savannah, where she taught the H.L.S. Sunday school class for more than 50 years.

Her parents, Milton C. and Mary A. Moran Wachtel, preceded her in death. She is survived by several cousins, among them Verzene Martin of St Joseph, Laurel Burtram of Overland Park, Kansas, and Carl Breit of Irvine, California.
