He purchased the George H Slocum farm on Wall Street Road above Grangerville in March or April 1939. The farm was owned at the time by Almon W and Lillian M Slocum Wetmore. Lillian was the daughter of George H and Hannah M Jones Slocum. G Harold and Ruth Van Patten Peck named the farm Peckhurst Farm and raised registered Guernseys.
